3DPrinterOS, the leading software provider for 3D printers, today announces it will be powering Smart International’s upcoming KODAK Portrait 3D Printers aiming to set a new standard in professional 3D printing. Under the partnership, all KODAK Portrait 3D Printers will come bundled with 3DPrinterOS Cloud 3D Printer Management, with the goal of driving mass adoption of the technology in educational institutions and enterprises.
Backed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Vulcan Capital, Silicon Valley-based 3DPrinterOS currently powers printers for thousands of students at top universities such as Duke, Yale and Harvard. The company will now expand its presence in professional organizations by combining its expertise with Smart International, Kodak’s global brand licensee for 3D Printing.
The 3D printing industry has an expected value of $26.5 billion by 2021, yet the technology’s widespread adoption by educational institutions and enterprises has been slow until now. Apart from the fact that most 3D printers have not been designed to be deployed in these settings, the machines have typically been expensive, unreliable and hard to use. Additionally, most current offerings haven’t offered the ability to track users, files and analytics, making it difficult for owners to justify their returns on investment.
The KODAK Portrait Printer is designed with steel forged hardware, and backed by a 4-year warranty. It also comes standard with industry-leading features such as a safety-enclosed temperature controlled chamber for protection from fumes, dual extrusion with lifting nozzles, supporting temperatures up to 300°C degrees and vacuum-sealed KODAK 3D Printing Filaments to protect against moisture and dust. KODAK Filaments also have been engineered for moisture control and dimensional accuracy. The 3D printer is available at a retail price of
$2,999.
With the KODAK Portrait Printer, running 3DPrinterOS software, institutions will finally have access to dependable devices that do all of that and more. The device will be shipped from the factory with local and cloud software from 3DPrinterOS, giving users the ability to network their 3D printers together, manage their files, share access and print to their machines from any computer, smartphone or tablet.
“We are extremely proud to integrate our software with the launch of this new professional KODAK 3D Portrait Printer. This is a big step towards mass adoption and compatibility,” said John Dogru, CEO of 3DPrinterOS. “Very similar to the success DOS and IBM experienced with the PC in the 80’s, 3DPrinterOS believes in the same vision to combine our expertise in software, chemistry, and manufacturing to build a class leading product.”
With 3DPrinterOS’s leading software, KODAK Portrait Printer owners will have access to a reliable, centralized system for managing users, printers, print queues, design files and material expenses through any web browser or device. Owners will be able to track statistics on a per user, per design and per machine basis, providing granular-level data about filament used, and other printing data, such as the reasons for print failure, to help improve performance over time.
Users will be able to easily import and manage design files from third party design tools such as Autodesk, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, and others; upload files to the cloud to access and print from anywhere; live view objects being printed without being physically present in the room; and access all iterations of a file to easily reprint models and track success. This means, for example, a student on one side of campus could upload a design, and share it with someone in a completely different building who could then review it and print it out using the machine.
“We are happy to announce this partnership with 3DPrinterOS, the leading operating system for 3D printers, aimed at providing the best-in-class 3D printing experience to our users,” said Roberto Gawianski, CEO of Smart International. “As desktop 3D printers become an empowering solution for enterprises and schools, there’s a growing need for management software able to deploy their full capabilities to all users.”
Dogru added, “This professional printer is easy to use, with class leading software, hardware and materials all working together to deliver a reliable experience.”
